Communication Changes, Performance Enhancements and Privacy Updates for 2022 [Project Fusion]

Improvement
Announcement

Fusion is our project to bring United Baristas services closer together to make them even more powerful.

Here's the latest updates, improvements and changes.

Changes to communicating changes

In December we explained we were making changes to how we communicate changes to United Barista services. Today we announced those changes on United Baristas News. For most users, that article contains what they need to know.

Performance enhancements

This phase of Project Fusion also included server upgrades and updates to make our services faster and more stable for our community. This is the third time we've changed servers in 12 months because we have been growing so fast 📈.

Hopefully we have more accurately predicted our growth for the year ahead and we can now spend more time making United Baristas great and less time working on the engine.

Privacy updates

The above updates also included various security and privacy enhancements for our community and your data.

We’ve cut a number of third party trackers across United Baristas, most notably Facebook's pixel in 2021. After almost of year of being without the pixel (it was slow, buggy and only useful for Facebook marketing) we see no reason to introduce it again so we are announcing it's gone.

We are currently running a consultation on Google tracking. Our sites currently use Google Analytics, but we’re considering dropping it. Your thoughts are welcome.

We've also added some tracking to monitor our servers but they do collect some data about your use of United Baristas. So while the direction of travelling is for less third-party tracking, we still require some to make United Baristas work and to further improve it.

Because of these changes, we have today updated our:

We’ve also tightened up the auto-deletion of your information from our servers. For example, job listings and applications are now deleted after 180 days because people can gain many new skills in six months and we see no reason why they should be judged on who they once were.

People probably don’t appreciate just how privacy-focused United Baristas is – and how sloppy many organisations in the coffee industry are. We are thinking about how we can educate organisations from our experience but we also don't want to be all-preachy about it. We think our approach is working well for United Baristas, our users and the community as a whole. But we've still got further room for improvement. As always, your suggestions are welcome.
